AURA OF WAR

Quote:

I’ve met this multi-published author before, but Gabriel Timar’s book, Aura Of War is so flawless with its convoluted espionage details that I couldn’t put it down. The life history of Baron Arthur DeVendt’s military career is an above average read. It is so real, so believable, that I could have sworn this writer was telling his own life’s experience. Yes, it is that good. If you doubt me, read it yourself. Not only is this book a keeper, but I rate it a 5+. You’ll not find a single plot glitch, or unexpected snag within the fabric of this story. It’s the history of one man’s military accomplishments, in a war that tears his family and homeland of Hungary asunder.

Review:

When WWII begins in Germany, Baron Arthur DeVendt is only a school boy, yet he comes from a military background, and so, is determined to find a way to serve his country. Yet, in keeping with his plans to become an International Businessman when he grows up, he also prepares himself by becoming an accomplished linguist.

While serving as a cadet in the Royal Hungarian Army, he is employed for his linguistic talents, as well as by the French Foreign Legion…then eventually as an underground leader of Saboteurs, with many men under his command.

When he finds the Lady who wins his heart, he is in no position to even tell her who he really is. Yet, he knows he wishes to marry her, no matter what. This is his straw of hope throughout his years operating as a spy, until one day his team is compromised. Then he must make his own decisions how to save his operatives, as well as himself.

A WELCOME WAR

Quote:

Multi-published historical writer, Kev Richardson, has a way of bringing the history of his homeland, New South Wales [cum Australia] up front and personal. In his latest work, A WELCOME WAR, I was notably impressed with his astute presentation of a young lad’s impressions and compulsion to follow the happenings of World War II. From a ten year old’s impassioned sense of wonder, to his later assessments, as a young man of eighteen, he recounts his personal translation of the war that changed his life. The book includes many captivating memories from his younger years, and his recorded impressions of the exciting historical happenings of war.

If you love history, I highly recommend you read all of Richardson’s extensive historical writings about the First Fleet, and the men and women who populated the shockingly hidden history behind the penal colony in the beginning years of New South Wales, all available at www.wingsepress.com.

Review:

Kev Richardson presents his own bio as a school boy of ten confused by the changing colors on his war map, as counties continued to change hands during WWII. It became his first passionate effort to record history and the war that influenced the rest of his life. Yet the book, A WELCOME WAR also gazes into the heart of a boy growing up to discover the pleasures of scouting, swimming, hiking…and girls…dancing, and kissing.

This account, which lists accurate dates and war time impressions, verifies this writer’s dedication to discovering and disclosing the truths in history that have in the past been purposely hidden. This enchanting biography of his own youth is not to be missed.

If you like your suspense fast and furious, you’ll love Peter Hurley’s tale of warring city gangs and gun runners in Toronto, Canada. Myles Kennedy, an investigative reporter finds himself being threatened by gang members, as well as the police as he works to uncover the truth about why his brother-in-law’s death wasn’t a suicide.

Review:

The very gang members he hopes to put away for good, are the very scoundrels who threaten him as he gets closer and closer to discovering the truth of just who is behind the illegal trafficking. GERARD RAWES

Quote:

Once again multi-published historical writer, Ken Richardson, brings us living history, this time as seen through the eyes of Gerard Rawes, a London tailor for gentleman, during the Napoleonic Wars… and beyond. This author has a way of making history come alive, with a touch of wit woven through the personal accounts of his characters. If you enjoy reading about history, this author is someone you must read. This is a very personalized history of a chaotic era of military takeovers, and social unrest. Kev Richardson’s histories always enchant me. I’m sure you will be too.

Review:

During his 75 years of life, Gerard Rawes, a country bred boy born in 1763 to the slate mines of Westmorland, England, is apprenticed to a well-respected gentleman’s tailor in London. There, he is taken over by a worldly socialite, Mary Hassock, who refines him away from his Northern beginnings, perfecting him to join the privileged class in London.

He becomes a well-recognized fashion designer and Master Tailor of Gentry, whose notable clientele keep him more informed on the chaotic times than even the newspapers can accomplish.

He plans a large family, so builds a large house, along with his lucrative business…then loses his first wife in childbirth, while giving him the son he has always desired. It is his hired children’s tutor, Martha Bristow, who takes on the children, and when he finally realizes how much he loves her, they are married.

Even the chaos of London’s industrial advances of railroading, and newly mechanized yardage mills, is deftly described in Richardson’s personalized perspective of the era, and the loves and losses through the years of the ever growing Rawes family.

Finally, both Gerard and his wife, Martha retire to a life of ease, traveling to, and living a year visiting the Greek islands. Gerard sees his entire life as one exciting adventure following another. He passed away on the 15th of May, 1839. His second wife, being a younger person, lived on for another fifteen years with one of his daughters, dying on the 7th of April 1854. They leave their clothing business to their sons, James, and Francis Rawes; as well as his daughters, little Martha, Mary Jane and son-in-law, Jonathan Jones.

HOUSEHOLD REPAIRS

Quote:

This is one of the finest comedies I’ve read in a long while. The wit flows naturally from the characters. And though this book is written with a whimsical voice, the social message is nonetheless poignant to the times. I highly recommend it. This is definitely a keeper. This suspenseful seamlessly crafted book is a delightful read. I know you’ll love it.

LIONS, KISSES & PETRODOLLARS

Quote:

Multi-published author, Gabriel Timar has produced another above average Suspense full of International intrigue, with the kind of humor that will make you fall in love with his main character, Geoff M. Bones, Safari owner and professional hunter. He and his partner, Marcus Ngani, a full-blooded Kikuyu, delight in giving their clients more than they bargain for.

This is a very fast paced action yarn that will keep you riveted in your seat. I loved it so much I read it twice—back-to-back. I was captivated by the convoluted espionage, the international financing, and Gabriel Timar’s way of outwitting the crooked African politicians. This book is definitely a keeper.

Review:

Scallywag, Geoff M. Bones, and his dark complexioned partner, Marcas Ngani, play at the game of ‘bwana and servant’ for their ‘professional hunter and his local attendant’ appearances. They are doing well at driving their clients, Mr. Parmentier and his younger lady friend, Michelle Leclerc over dusty, bumpy back roads to shoot wild game—until Tanzania bans hunting lions and elephants. Then their plans must be altered—like flying to a different country. Meanwhile, Geoff, a resourceful bachelor, has his eye set on the young woman and proceeds to separate her from her senior husband…for bit more than a few stolen kisses.

But that’s not all. They soon discover that their clients aren’t who they pretended to be. Then all hell breaks loose, and they find themselves fleeing for their lives over international boundaries, trying to outwit not only the Arab gunmen determined to do away with sixty year old Mr. Parmentier, but the local tribal police, as well.

Never too old has her heroine coming to grips with her new Latin lover with a salsa beat; but she doesn’t want her children finding out about him. Fiona McGier has a way of spicing up her romances so that you want to take a few private moments for yourself in a quiet room. So sexy!

RECIPE FOR LOVE

Quote:

Oh gosh, I remember back when I was just beginning to be on the wrong side of forty. The Harleys would grumble into our driveway and this 6’6” guy would walk up to my husband and say, “Excuse me. We are having a buddy ride today, and well, I don’t have a partner. Could I please borrow your wife this afternoon?” Boy, those were the days!

And yes, he looked pretty much like Fiona McGier’s, Jules Marks Tremenczyk, Patti Johnson’s newly-hired assistant cook, JT. RECIPE FOR LOVE is the second book in the series about the Reyes family.

This story brought back wonderful memories. You’re gonna love it. It’s down to earth. It’s women working at surviving. It’s meeting your sexuality head-on, and not needing to apologize for who you really are.

Review:

Patti Johnson and her business partner, Tegan O’Neill, set out to hire an assistant cook for their Mexican restaurant, “Patti’s Place”; where they also host children’s birthday parties… hosted by their company: “Parties By Pat-Teg”. One of the applicants is Harley-riding, Jules Marks Tremenczyk, a Romani gyspy. Hiring this hunk is only the beginning of Patti’s problems. Well, not the beginning, beginning. That came with throwing her abusive husband out the door.

JT comes with his own back-story and unsavory history, which catches up with him, putting Patti and her two children in peril. Two dangerous thugs have Patti all tied up when JT crashes to the rescue. All hell breaks loose because JT has laid claim on Patti as his woman, and by gypsy law, nobody better hurt the women. Plus, it’s a bad notion to ever upset a Romani Gypsy, as these cons discover.

JT is the kind of man you dream about having for your very own. He is a loyal family man, who falls in love with Patti and her two children. When he moves in, all their lives change for the better. This is another spicy love story, with romping wild sex scenes. I’m sure if you like spicy-hot, you are going to love these getting-it-on love scenes. I did.

STETSON MOLD

Quote:

Lynette Hall Hampton, writes a very professional, keep you on your toes who-done-it with her book, Stetson Mold. I highly recommend this book. She has a way of keeping you guessing just who would want Michelle [Shelly] Wakefield’s Great Uncle Stetson Varner murdered, to get their hands onto his plastic extrusion company.

This is a masterfully woven suspense, where everyone looks to be plotting to grab the company from Shelly…but who is really behind all the accidents happening in the plant? And who is stealing all her Uncle’s good furniture out of the house she has just inherited? I truly enjoyed this exciting read. It is definitely a keeper.

THE FALL OF AUGUSTUS

Quote:

I’ve always thought of a museum as a quiet place to wile away the time, but that’s not the case when Sarah Wisseman shows us what can happen behind the scenes. Her character, Lisa Donahue has a distinctively difficult challenge ahead of her to keep her position at the museum. Some of the display pieces go missing, and newly discovered mummies haven’t been procured from Egypt. The Fall of Augustus will definitely keep you guessing who the culprit might me, right down to the last chapter. This is an exceptionally first-rate read. It had me guessing right down to the last chapter who-done-it—and why.

Review:

It all begins when several large statues are being moved from the old museum storage location to a new building, where a grand opening is scheduled to take place in a few months. The Assistant Director Lisa Donahue Barber is doing her bit to manage the move, which is not going too smoothly. Especially after a weighty statue of Augustus plunges down the elevator shaft and squashes Museum Director, Victor Fittzgerald like a bug.

And things go steadily screw-ball from there. Foul play is suspected, and author Sarah Wisseman gives you a long laundry list of suspects: staff members, students, and part time employees, any of whom could be the murderer…but which one? And just who knows enough about the exhibits besides Lisa, to be stealing some of the better pieces?

After Victor is killed, Lisa is passed over for promotion, her nemesis Valerie Albrecht, from her last job is hired instead to serve as Director. Lisa bites her tongue and does her best to keep her job. But, Val makes it a living hell for everyone, until even Lisa would like to accidently drop another statue down the elevator shaft...but she’d have to stand in line. Everyone on site would love to do Valerie in, themselves. Even the Police Sergeant, Bruce McEwan wonders just how involved Lisa might be with all the strange things happening down in the basement.

THE RESTORATION OF ABBY WALKER

Quote:

Linda Rettstatt’s latest 5 Star book, The Restoration Of Abby Walker, is skillfully crafted, and seamlessly presented. I highly recommend it.

Abby’s trusted husband of twenty-five years, betrayals her on their anniversary cruise. She is anticipating the reawakening of their romantic relationship… until she meets the other woman. It is a courageous tale of Abby’s will to survive her worst nightmares, and her bravery to begin a new life…alone.

Review:

Abby Mulgrew knew her husband had been a bit distant lately; his work had been keeping him away from home… or so he said. Yet, she plans a romantic comeback on their 25th/ Wedding Anniversary Cruise. That is, until she goes looking for him onboard and finds him in the arms of his mistress. The Restoration Of Abby Walker details the courage and determination of how Abby meets the challenges of her devastating divorce, and her nerve to face her new life.

The enormous new watchdog in her life, Blackjack, is the comic relief of the book. Even as big as a horse, I immediately fell in love with him. He had the good sense to approve Abby’s new lawyer, Troy; and pin her ex-husband against the wall when he dropped by without telephoning ahead. Good dog!

This book is definitely a keeper. I found it inspirational and heartwarming, as Abby struggles to face her fears and build a new life and identity for herself. One, where she wasn’t afraid to be herself. While learning to restore furniture and opening her bran new antique shop by the shore, she learns that the word ‘patina’ doesn’t apply solely to the fine finish on antique furniture.

THE TERRIBLE TRUTHS

Quote:

I must agree with Australian historian, Kev Richardson, a proud sixth generation ‘First Fleeter’, that denying the terrible truths of convictism and its atrocities, only made today’s Australians stronger for knowing how their forebears clung together to cope with intolerance, bigotry, and hypocrisy of the times.

Each new generation born at the penal colonies of ‘New South Wales’ and ‘Van Dieman’s Land’ in the 1800’s, indeed proved themselves brave founders, who stuck together in bonded mate-ships as they desperately strove to survive.

Review:

I found reading about the true history of the 1800’s in Australia, an eye-opener. The developing society of Class Distinctions between the incarcerated prisoners, emancipated convicts, and those born free of convict-stock, struggling against the brutality dealt by the military and Upper Classes sent to command them, developed a colony with intense prejudices and hatreds. Many of the First Fleeters lived well into their eighties and nineties, bearing extremely large families, whose paths crisscrossed down throughout history. The second and third generations of illiterate sons and daughters, though free of having committed any crime, still carried the stigma of being ‘convict-born’.

However, the times changed when schooling became available to the offspring of the many convict families; and the ups and downs of mining reversed their failing economies. It was then that it was decided to hide the terrible truth of their beginnings from their youngsters. It was an effort to build the country’s self-esteem. This created two factions: one, to hide from their sons and daughters the shame of having been convict-born; the other, wanting to preserve their personal pride in the strengths of their ethos.

Kev Richardson brings to life the stories of the families struggling to survive in the penal colonies of ‘New South Wales’ and ‘Van Dieman’s Land’. Braving untried lands, they faced devastating conditions, brutality, bigotry, and taxation. Here is a modern day author bravely disclosing the terrible truths concealed behind the recorded history of the ancestors transported into a living hell, and how they really lived and loved. I highly recommend this series to all history lovers. This book will open your eyes to the shocking truths behind Australia’s hidden past.

THERE AND BACK

Review:

Multi-published author, Trisha Fitz Gerald-Petrie, who was born in Ireland, has produced a saucy family suspense about three Sullivan sisters in her very charming Irish voice. I absolutely adored how she tells the tale of these close knit sisters growing up, in a family that stuck together, no matter what. Sisters Gwendolyn and Anna are always balancing their own lives, against trying to save their impulsive baby sister, Tessie, from her romantic misadventures.

There And Back is an exciting story of international romantic intrigues; a once in a lifetime love that never quite gets lost from the heart. After rescuing her impetuous sister once again, Gwendolyn Sullivan, the levelheaded secretary, takes a deep breath… and determines to resume her sensible life.

This is definitely a page turner as you deal with Gwyn’s affair of the heart, the kind of love that is never forgotten.

TO WISH FOR HOPE

Quote:

TO WISH FOR HOPE by multi-published author, Jayme Evans is a real keeper. It continues the complex family story of Grand Bastis Braize and his village of native Cherroks. This is a very multifaceted other-world tale of different planets inner-acting together, some more violently than others. Elfax has an important crystal that is being sought after by the Euphratorian Empire, while the Cossars come to capture slaves. There is a lot of action in this one. It’s great.

Review:

After killing her foster father, Mallen born Sharah of the family Hast, hides in the backwoods-forest on Elfax. Like a frontier woman she lives in a hut and disguises herself, hunting and fishing like a man. While hunting one winter day, she discovers an injured man lying unconscious in the woods wearing nothing but an elaborate neck piece. Although she no longer trusts men, she knows she can’t just leave him there to freeze. She must take him back to her cabin.

Recovering, Grand Bastis Braize, leader of the Cherrok Nation, takes Sharah under his protection. Her simple life changes when she is taken to his village. Then without warning they are attacked. Can Braize protect her even after she is captured by the lizard slavers of Coss? She realizes that her survival is her only hope. She must do whatever it takes to survive

Without warning he, stabs and kills her partner Mike Mallory, then at close range shoots her in the chest. As she collapses, the only thought on her mind is her two year old son, Ben.

Review:

Ambassador Lance Lincoln of Earth is captured by a barbaric Cherrok tribe and presented as a slave to Malena, sister to the Grand Bastis. Due to the terms of his captivity Lance is reluctant to admit that he has been adopted into the Royal family of the Euphratorian Empire. He frets about establishing a sense of trust between he and his captors, yet doesn’t want to reveal his true identity. When he and Malena are attacked on the mountainside, his warrior monk training is exposed. Because he has refrained from divulging his true identity, he fears that when his sister, Princess Julia, and the Royal family come looking for him, all hell is going to break loose.
