A HIDDEN LEGACY

Quote:

The day Matt Jones discovers his parents at Fenham Manor, England are not his blood kin, his world as he knows it, comes suddenly to an end. A HIDDEN LEGACY by Heather Garside is exquisitely crafted with vivid detail, and is tightly interwoven with sexual indiscretions and family scandals. Mathew must strive to grow up to face his new world.

I highly recommend A HIDDEN LEGACY, a Historical Romance written by Heather Garside for its intricate plotting, multifarious adventures, and the twisting tale of its family relationships. It’s more than just a quick afternoon read.

Review:

Raised as the uneducated coachman’s son, Matt Jones is astonished to discover the couple who raised him to his eighteenth birthday is not his blood kin. He heads for Australia, where it is reported his natural mother is married to a poor stockman. Wanting to know why she had rejected him when he was young, he follows the leads to seek her out. During his quest, he has his equestrian knowledge to fall back onto for employment.

In his arrogant, bad boy, adventurous fashion he uncovers the gossip behind his family’s reputation, which is riddled with sexual indiscretions and scandal… from the affluent Ashfords, to the Kavenaghs, and the Jamisons. Being a lady’s man himself, he finds himself following in their footsteps, until Isabella Jamison enters his life.

BROGAN’S BUST

Quote:

BROGAN’S BUST by Kev Richardson is a well-crafted, high testosterone, tale of corrupt international trafficking in gems, guns and drugs. In fact, I couldn’t help but wonder how this author knew so much detailed information about the strong-armed men of South America? It all sounds so realistic, as though he’s been there, done that…and survived.

Review:

The leading character, Brogan, a footloose turban wearing pilot, lives by his own personal ethical code, and works both sides of the law, flying mail, passengers and contraband alike over the roadless jungle. Within the corrupt 1939, complex chain of trafficking emeralds, illicit drugs, and weapons across-country, he deals with all sorts of unsavory characters… unscrupulous killers for hire, drug lords and underlings, and traffickers who spit, get drunk, and scratch their privates in public. The advantages for Brogan is knowing when to take his money and look the other way, or when to fit all the suspenseful puzzle pieces together to know when to throw a wrench into the well-oiled South American smuggling operations... without getting himself and his lady friend killed. In his business, timing is everything.

DEVIL’S DUE

Quote:

Rhobin Lee Courtright’s latest Science Fiction release, DEVIL’S DUE, is the third in a series featuring Maj. Jezlynn Chambers as an agent, who makes 007 look like a Boy Scout. This book has a well-crafted complex plot-line, and is an excellent, fast-paced Science Fiction tale about the multi-talented heroine and her bigger than life adventures. It is a definite keeper. This multi-level space saga is exciting, fast moving, and complex. This series is definitely for you if you crave something deeper than a simple afternoon’s read. I highly recommend it.

Review:

Maj. Jezlynn Angeline Chambers is a multi-talented officer. She is an ex-Ranger and Space Service Corps trained space-pilot, mechanic, inventor, and diplomatic contact, who has made some very interesting off-world collaborators. Everyone speculates on why, after having been accused and acquitted of being a desperate deserter and a traitor, that she has been recalled to duty… and just what is her secret mission? Why is she the only Corps officer who is expected to prevent a new war? And why is it everyone in Command is deliberately overlooking her weaknesses, yet treating her like an essential secret weapon gone awry? What does she have that’s so special?

Secretly married to Capt. Lucian Krayne in the last book, LOSER’S GAME, he is the only person who understands just what makes Jesse tick. But can even he manage her darker forces? There are those who think not. Even an onboard inquest doesn’t reveal whether she is emotionally fit to carry out her orders from High Command. All that is learned about Jesse is that she is not your ordinary military-trained officer. She could put 007 to shame. So, who is she… really?

ENCHANTED LEGACY

Quote:

Lexie Avery has an impressive YA storytelling voice in ENCHANTED LEGACY. This complex, suspenseful paranormal family saga will have you believing in unusual coincidence, past lives, and spirits visiting from 1863 Virginia City when a Washoe brave and a red-headed lady bank robber come together to create a love story that lasts down through the ages.

Review:

Rio Laraquette is hired to impersonate the missing heir of the red-haired, 1863 bank robber, Maggie Fuller Tajan. The loot from the Virginia City bank hold up has been missing, since two of the three Fuller sisters had been shot during the getaway. When con artist Turner Atkins stumbles onto half of the missing treasure map he is determined to locate the other half.

Rio goes off to infiltrate the Tajan family in her efforts to locate the long lost treasure. At the home of Bill Tajan she is stunned to discover paintings of Maggie and her Indian husband, which show she is a twin-look-a-like for Maggie. Because of this uncanny likeness she has no problems convincing her cousin, Billy Tajan and his family that she is their long lost relative. She and Billy set out to locate the missing loot, while they taunt Turner Atkins’ goons who follow them everywhere.

FIRES OF BELENUS

Quote:

The sword, Clach Na Adhar, crafted from a sky stone, is at the root of the evil experienced by everyone who gazes upon it and lusts to possess its powerful magic. Fires Of Belenus written by Wm. H. Russeth is a saga written about early Celtic times of Druidry rituals, and warring chieftains who would willfully break their own Code of Ethics to possess this magical sword.

This delightful pre-historical story is a fast moving adventure of human lusts and willful deceptions. It’s very entertaining. I highly recommend it, yet if you are a ‘historical purist’ just be aware some liberties have been taken in the telling.

Review:

This family saga of Athair, a mountain blacksmith, and his two grown sons, Bryn and Eoan, begins when he is contracted to create a glorious sword from the blazing sky stone, thrown down by the gods. Even before the meteorite could be crafted into a bejeweled sword, its mere presence causes men to attack their neighbors just to have it.

All those who set eyes upon the completed sword, lust so deeply to possess it that even good men plot to murder their neighboring chieftains, or seize and carry off their wives, no matter the consequences. But the sword creates chaos no matter where it is, or who possess it. Although the family knows that something must be done to stop Clach Na Adhar’s reign of terror, they aren’t quite sure just what to do about it.

MY HIGHLAND LOVE

Quote:

Multi-published author Tricia McGill does it again! You can’t help but fall in love with her Highlander chief, Travis Mac Allister, the masterful clan leader in 1051 Scotland from her previous book… WHITE CLOVER. Even without running water and central heating this time-travel novel will make you wish you could be transported back into Travis’ castle… for a good, old fashioned candle lit romance.

Review:

Beth Anderson visits her friend Liz and her husband, Andrew, in their hodgepodge Scottish castle, enthralled by their exciting tale of time travel into 1050 Scotland, where the year before they had met Andrew’s enigmatic ancestor, Travis Mac Allister. If you’ve ever fallen in love with a man in a portrait painting, that’s what happened to Beth. Then she plots to join her Highlander by using the brooch and mantle that had transported Liz the year before. And find him, she does.

What she hadn’t expected was the intense feuding and fighting between the clans, and the harsh conditions found in 1051 Scotland. Still, Beth must make up her mind whether or not to return to the present... or brave it out and stay in the past with her Highland lover, by destroying the time travel mechanism. This is a fast paced action tale of the rough conditions of by gone days, and the man Beth couldn’t leave behind.

RETREAT TO DANGER

Quote:

If I were running for my life, I’d want someone just like Carol McPhee’s hero, Greg Sanders, watching over me. He’s the kind of neighbor every single mom could hope to have. He and his dog, Casey, are the turning point in Maureen Ripley’s harrowing life. When the dog falls in love with her nine year-old son, Sam, things start getting better… until danger finds them again.

Review:

When Maureen Ripley is warned that her abusive ex-husband is being released from prison early, she panics and bolts, with her nine year old son, Sam. She fears that her ex will find her even at the peaceful shore-line cabin at Serenity Bay.

With binoculars in hand, her peeping neighbor, Greg Sanders, local lobster fisherman, has his own marital problems, but he can’t help but notice when the shapely woman moves into the house just down the cove. Casey, his overly friendly pooch, falls in love with Sam, and the boy soon forgets about his father’s threat to kill him.

There is plenty of explosive conflict in this story as Mauri and Sam begin to heal from their emotional traumas, learning to trust the man next door and his sister’s family. Then comes the day when their past catches up with them. They wonder whether it had been wise to invest in their new relationships, or whether it was time to run again?

SHADOW OF MALICE

Quote:

Ben Douglas does it again.

Lanny Boone, a methodical crime investigator seems to plod his way to naming the murderer, but finding his culprit is what he does. Lanny isn’t an all work type of guy. He loves his barbecued cookery and his girlfriend, Chris Wells. You’ll love the building suspense this multi-published author creates, and the complex cross-webbed connections between all the vivid characters.

Review:

Whenever there is a dead body, crime investigator Lanny Boone starts to work on it in his through, methodical fashion. Who could have wanted Dr. Wayne Bowen dead? It seems that in the quiet, small town of Mason, an undercurrent of vice is going on. Wife beaters, drug pushers and hit men taking their toll. SINGING WINDS

Quote:

Linda Strawn presents an American Indian story that will win your heart, as orphaned Katy Breyer falls in love with a Maidu brave, and wonders whether she can successfully live a good Christian life while also living with Jesse’s people.

Review:

When Jack rescues his orphaned niece, Katy Breyer, from a loveless well-to-do lifestyle in Denver, and takes her home to Truckee, California, he relies upon his religion to get him through the hard times. He prays that his brother’s eighteen year old daughter will adjust to the simple life that he offers her.

However, when Katy sees her very first Indian, he is not the wild, frightening savage she had envisioned. She is disappointed that nineteen year old Jesse would rather spend his time out in the barn, than mingle with Uncle Jack’s family. Yet, she realizes he has his own mission in life, his own hurts to heal, and his own concept of God. She wonders if she can follow him into the wild country with a clear conscience. Could God still find her and be her salvation, after she meets Stone Wolf and becomes a part of his people? What becomes of the Maidu People after they decide to convert to Christianity?

Katy worries that Jesus will deny her if she becomes wife to an Indian, and bears on Indian child. Can she change her world simply by changing her name? Can she live in two different worlds, and still have her salvation in God? This is a very touching romance, one filled with overcoming personal doubts, while also keeping the faith.

TO WISH UPON A STAR

Quote:

TO WISH UPON A STAR written by Jayme Evans is presented in such a fashion as to be enjoyable to both young adults as well as adult readers. Although the pacing is slow, the story is nonetheless exciting with an assassination conspiracy and suspenseful intrigue between other world’s royal families struggling to take over control of their galaxies during a galactic war. I truly enjoyed this fanciful Science Fantasy Romance between an, other world Prince, and our simple, every-day-normal Earth girl and how she reacts to being treated like royalty.

Review:

Julie Lincoln and her firey-haired brother, Lance, are whisked away in a spaceship as Ambassadors of Earth. They work together to teach their hosting space travelers about Earth’s everyday maters, moral codes and protocol. In this story there is plenty of suspenseful intrigue and action between royal families struggling to take over command of the Hyandrian Solar System.

Before they can reach Wallonia Palace to introduce the brother and sister team, to be presented as Earth Ambassadors to the Emperor on their own planet, both Julie and Lance are kidnapped. Spirited away by the enemy they are used as pawns in this galactic war. However, Prince Daamic of the family Ominar is not about to let her go. He finds her enchanting and priceless, and above equal to all the available females on his own planet. He is determined to get her back.

This story is based on our mum's life, and there are a couple of the stories within that closely resemble members of my large family, but it's mostly fiction. Our Dad didn't get killed but came back from WW1 and lived to his late 50s. He was a wonderful father and man and most of my heroes have a part of him within them. Our mother was exceptionally strong and struggled as Alicia did to feed a large family through the tough years of WW11 and the depression. Luckily our dad always had a job (with the gas company believe it or not).

My eldest sister provided most of the facts as she lived through it all. I tell people I have been blessed and led a charmed life as I have always been cherished (being the youngest of ten).

Window On Windemere by Marilyn Gardiner is a real page turner, as our heroine fights against whispered voices in the dark, and shadows that she can’t prove are really there.
