A CORPSE IN THE SOUP

Quote:

An amazing sister writing team, Morgan St. James and Phyllice Bradner, put out a witty, complex murder mystery that will keep you laughing from beginning to end. It’s a must read. This book is chock-full of surprises and plot twists. I didn’t want this book to ever end.

Review:

A CORPSE IN THE SOUP is a whimsical tale about the Silver twins, who get into the act like Miss Marpal. When the rich sister, Godiva Dubois, a newspaper columnist attends the TV program, ‘Flirting With Food’ featuring Chef Caesar Romano… she is hospitalized with food poisoning after tasting one of Caesar’s culinary creations on the set. Her sister Goldie Silver Pepper, closes her Silver Spoon Antique Shop in Juneau, Alaska and dashes to LA to be with her twin.

Godiva has been smitten by the chef’s good looks, and when he is accused of stabbing to death his program’s nasty, ‘bad boy’ competition, Biff Wellington with his very own kitchen knife, Godiva and Goldie vow to prove Caesar innocent. Being identical twins has its own advantages when the entire family and a fistful of friends become involved in sleuthing out the facts they suspect the police may have overlooked.

A FIERY SECRET

QUOTE:

Author Diane Craver has a way with mystery. This enchanting Chick Lit voiced novel will have you suspecting just about everyone when it comes down to just who killed the janitor? And why? She keeps investigative reporter, Catherine Steel on the chase, not just for her story, but her hot co-worker, Jake Michaels, as well.

REVIEW:

Catherine Steel—a virgin by choice—works as an investigative reporter for “The Messenger”, a local newspaper. While being actively pursued by coworker, sports reporter, Jake Michaels, she couldn’t forget for a moment that he had humiliated her back in high school days, by reneging on taking her to the prom. She’d even gotten all dressed up for him, and she wanted her revenge…but dog-gone it that was hard to do because she had the hots for him.

Then, she discovered her brother’s new girlfriend’s natural father really wasn’t the mayor, but the dead high school janitor. He had blown himself up in a boiler room accident ten years before…but she suspects that just maybe somebody had wanted him dead. But who…and why?

Well, Cat can’t just leave it at that. Curiosity niggles her brain cells. She just has to know why the police had been so quick to chalk it all off as negligence? Who had really set out to kill Max Hartman, the high school janitor? Without thinking about her own safety, Catherine ferrets out the truth behind the news.

A HANDYMAN’S BEST TOOL

Quote:

When I started to read A HANDYMAN’S BEST TOOL, I thought sure this was a confirmed bachelor’s testosterone romp with plenty of fooling around. To my delighted surprise this work actually has a story plot full of suspense.

Review:

Riley Osborne arrived to fix the roof, but he found the sexy pixie who met him at the door, more than just a little distracting in her wet tee shirt. Beth Ann Harris recognized the handyman as the boy she had idolized in high school. She had fantasized about him for years. Now here he stood on her very own doorstep. Her dreams were coming true. Fortunately, he didn’t recognize her as the fat girl in school who had had a crush on him.

They agreed to just mess around a little; each had a reason for not wanting a lasting relationship. Right? Right! So what the heck happened to change the situation? Destructive vandalism at his construction site had kept them apart…but who was the mysterious perpetrator? Was it really just kids kicking up their heels, or was it a disgruntled ex-employee trying to ruin Riley’s company?

Afraid, Beth Ann fretted she might lose the one man in her life who turned her on. While Riley worried the sabotatour deliberately struggled to delay his job’s completion schedule … or that his red-headed pixie girl might be in imminent danger.

A TASTE OF TEMPTATION

Quote:

Multi-published Gayle Eden lives her romances not only as dreams-of-the-heart, but in her own life, as well. She insists that Love is a way of life she shares with her readers, as well as her family. Over the years she has learned to indulge her muse, instead of trying to control it. If you enjoy this time era, you’ll appreciate the complexity of relationships in this erotic tale.

Review:

A TASTE OF TEMPTATION is a racy story which deals with Abigail Forsythe’s strongly controlled sexual desire gone wild, when she seeks to tame London’s rakehell, Viscount Simon Berrenge. She discovers even London’s ton, the Dragons of East Horndon can’t control the new earl of Collingworth, a confirmed bachelor… an arrogant rascal and blackguard who defies the ton’s rules of courtship. However, Abby finds his aloofness and arrogance a challenge. During her one season’s introduction to London’s sophisticates, Abby purposefully pursues her chosen rascal.

While her ditzy aunt Flora Toft is out digging for dragon bones, Abby is determined to reshape her chosen tiger into becoming the gentleman he refuses to become. He is just as set on deliberately breaking her spirit and her heart. Gabby must decide whether or not her goal to tempt the Viscount is worthy of her efforts, or if she should just return home and forget about the sexually tempting man of her dreams.

CHASING MEMORIES

Review:

Amnesiac, Laura Thompson, thought the worst crisis that could ever happen to her was losing her memories of her marriage and the birth of her six year-old daughter. But she was wrong. Her life deals her one emotional crisis after another when she struggles to reestablish just who she was.

She learns that her husband is dead, that she lives alone in a small house with her young daughter, and that Christmas is just around the corner. She doesn’t remember the car that ran her down and broke her leg as she shoveled snow from her neighbor’s walk, or the strong young woman who takes over the directing of her daily life. Recapturing her illusive identity doesn’t come easy, even with the constant love and support from her neighbors, friends, her employer, and family members.

Her faith is sorely tested! Again and again she must learn to trust strangers who want to tell her what to do. In spite of her life’s traumas she and her young daughter discover that life is a continuous process filled with new opportunities to begin afresh.

This Inspirational story of Laura’s brave struggle to become her own person, leans heavily upon her relationships with the people who love her, and the supportive members of her community church.

CONTRACT BRIDE

Quote:

Ayn Amorelli’s CONTRACT BRIDE is written from a man’s point of view. This book comes close to being porn… even disrespectfully brutal at times. How much money does it take to justify this kind of marital abuse?

Review:

A marriage of convenience was all Bob McKnight had in mind until he met Kaila Leigh. His Great Aunt had stipulated in her will that he must produce an heir before the end of the year, in order to inherit her millions. For that amount of money he was willing to forget his promise to his dad never to marry. He had no time to waste; December was only nine months away. He had to find a girl and convince her to marry him…and get her with child all in the allotted time, or risk losing his inheritance.

Bob hadn’t expected the woman he’d selected to be such a high maintenance item. His own obsessive compulsion was being a neat-freak. Although Kaila was desperate to have the money, she refused to be ordered around like a slave. If they actually fell in love it would be a miracle. Could they modify their own compulsive behaviors long enough to make this scheme work? Only time would tell.

Quote:

Ms. Bingley is a master crafter of suspense, leaving you scratching your head and wondering clear to the end, just who done it? And what was their deadly motivation? This book will have you reading way past your bedtime.

Review:

In Lori Derby Bingley’s April 2006 release, FRATERNITY, the female perpetrator goes unnamed throughout the entire book, leaving a string of dead bodies for Detectives Ron Hewlett and Gerry Johnston to identify. Someone seeks revenge against the brothers of Rho Psi Chi Fraternity House–but who? As Ron goes undercover into the frat house his partner eats his way through his deductive processes. The closer Ron gets to figuring out just what is going on, the murders continue to escalate. It seems as though no one is safe. GURREWA

Quote:

I wept for Adam Ashby.

Not because he lived such a degrading despairing life as a lowly convict, but because he had finally discovered acceptance and respect by the native Aborigines of New South Wales… only to be shot down by his own people. He had bolted into the wilds rather than be flogged for his latest crime. This is a poignant story of a boy who in his teens searched for a kind and gentler world, where a person could be loved for simply being himself. Instead, he is jailed and thrown in with hardened criminals, and military men who greedily seek power over their charges. In spite of what this criminal environment has in store for Adam, he nonetheless survives. Yet, it is his searching for empathetic love and respect that carries him into manhood.

Review:

In 1784, Newgate Prison, London, Adam knows more than the average small boy working as a street-gang thief…he knows his true name. Plus, he has his nearly telepathic love and trust for one of his troop brothers. Life doesn’t seem so unsure or threatening while he has his brother, Wil, to share his experiences. However, in this cruel, hate filled existence, the type of life Adam envisions of freedom in a land of forest, doesn’t seem to mesh with his downtrodden reality.

Transported to the penal colony at New South Wales, in 1788 Adam finds Meg, a convict woman, willing to accept his brand of love. But, she is raped and when Adam steals the medication to deaden her pain, he is caught red-handed. He knows he must bolt, leaving Meg behind, rather than allow himself to be chained and flogged within an inch of his life.

Once in the wilds, he is saved from starvation and thirst by the local natives, who teach him about their ancient philosophy of love and caring. Because of his white nakedness they lovingly rename him “Gurrewa”… after the white cockatoos that live in the freedom of the trees.

Kev Richardson’s book, Gurrewa is a wonderfully insightful look into the philosophy of the original people who populated the world the English named, New South Wales, a peaceful land they took by force with no respect for the people who already lived there.

LARKSPUR

Quote:

A clever storyteller, Inspirational writer Ramona K. Cecil’s first book, LARKSPUR is so poignantly vivid that it transported me back to my youth, sixty years ago. This talented writer takes you back to Indiana during 1835, to the small town of Larkspur where the medical emergencies are quite real as her hero and heroine join forces to supply health care for the townspeople, yet struggle in vain not to fall in love.

Quote:

Ramona K. Cecil, an inspirational writer, begins her writing career with LARKSPUR, a 2005 writing contest winner. She keeps you guessing whether Becky and her doctor will ever see eye-to-eye. One of the things I really liked about LARKSPUR was the coming together of two modes of healing. The medical emergencies were so realistic that it reminded me of my early years living on a ranch in Northern California, where medical facilities were hours away. Trained as a nurse, my mother was often called upon to take up needle and thread to sew together men who had been injured working in the fields.

Review:

Larkspur, Indiana in 1835 is a quiet, small town setting for the budding romance between fiery, herb healer Becky Hale, and the visiting neophyte surgeon, Dr. Ephraim Morgan. Becky and Ephraim join forces to ply their healing arts as a team—until Hannah Brown throws her clutching arms around his neck and kisses him like there is no tomorrow. Brokenhearted, Becky runs—fearing she is being jilted yet again.

With this new humiliation how in the world can she face Ephraim tomorrow? Her desire of their becoming married and living together forever-and-ever seems hopelessly lost. She can’t help but wonder if God could be so cruel? But she has her faith in a benevolent God. In spite of everything that has gone wrong since the man of her dreams arrived on the stage, she knows God will provide a miracle. There just had to be a way to recapture her lost dreams?

LAST CALL

Quote:

This story covers all manner of love and loss when Hayden discovers there is more to life than dying. He learns to share the affections in his life with others; but, in spite of all the uproarious laughter in this story, Last Call still has a five hankie ending. I highly recommend this book. It touched me like no other has in a long time.

Review:

Cancer patient, Hayden McBride is researching the best way to go about dying, with his cohort-companion…his eleven year-old grandson, Joey. It is serious business until Sister Rosamond Roger suddenly pops into the picture. She has also been diagnosed with cancer. Once Rosa meets Hayden, she isn’t interested in learning how to die. She wants to learn how to live a little…to have fun while she is still able, even though her vows to Jesus keeps getting in the way.

Everything seems solved when Joey suggests that she join the household for a “sleep over”. This works out just fine, as Hayden loves tormenting his daughter, Diana. He asks Rosa to move in with them. After all what can his daughter say? It’s his house. This is a wild madcap tale of Hayden’s playful shenanigans, told with tongue-in-cheek humor as he deals with his family’s problems, the defrocked nun, and the too-wise-for-his-own-good grandson, plus the drinking habits of his drunken buddies, the Greyfriars Gang.

LURE OF THE EMERALD PEACOCK

Quote:

Although LURE OF THE EMERALD PEACOCK’s contemporary setting is late 1940’s India, the misadventures of the half-cast Dina, and her romantic Irishman, Duncan MacGavin is told with a Classic Fantasy voice. I found this story charmingly crafted and every exciting.

Review:

Before her British father passes away, he places his young daughter, Geraldine Pearce into the keeping of an old family friend. His Majesty, Meharaja of Khadampur and his wife Maharana Shante Deui, change her name to Dina, and treat her as their own daughter. They also guard the exquisite emerald brooch placed in their safekeeping. However, at his own death the precious heirloom becomes the object of lust for the sly, power-hungry Maharja Askole Kumar, who is obsessed by the jewel as well as its rightful owner. He determines not to honor his father’s pledge, by refusing to return the jeweled heirloom to her on her twenty-first birthday, as agreed.

At first sight, the scrappy Scotsman, Duncan MacGavin, Ashok’s royal engineer, falls in love with his majesty’s Anglo-Indian step-sister. With the Maharana’s blessing they escape together with the Emerald Peacock pin. Their chase through India with the priceless Emerald Peacock produces great misadventures for the Scotsman who has vowed to love her always, and the palace-raised half-cast girl is naively clueless that her caramel complexion inflames the Irishman’s tightly reined passions.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Quote:

Todd A. Stone has a way of putting the reader inside Jonathan Kragg’s mind to deduce what other detectives have overlooked. John doesn’t just intuit what the criminals might think; he “becomes” them. This author also has the reporter’s gimmick for misdirection like Courtney E. Michel, who names every new character in the storyline so that to list them all you would wind up with a never ending list of prospective perpetrators. Very clever, these writers.

If you like a masculine perspective in storytelling, this book is for you. I really liked this author’s voice--the action, the mind challenge, and the hero’s sensitivities. This is definitely a man’s book…and well, it’s also for women who love men like Jonathan Kragg.

Review:

ADMS’ Security Director, Jonathan Kragg is a two-sided coin. He is a clever and meticulously observant Security Director, yet vulnerable to wartime flashbacks. As an ex-Military Special Forces and FBI trained agent he listens to the Zen flow of water within his own stream of consciousness. Even medically retired from the forces, he is called upon by the police to solve a grisly murder. In spite of his fragile grip on reality between his sense of Zen-rain and his analytical deductions, it is his expertise to assemble the puzzle pieces to solve the crime. Discounting all efforts to manipulate his logic he and his partner, Detective Dubrowski, follow the killer’s trail to its conclusion… disregarding the dangers to himself, the dog that trusts him without question, and his dream of someday having a wife and family who can accept him for who he is.

PALOMA

Quote:

This is one of the best crafted books I’ve read in a while. The plot and story twists keep you guessing just who to trust, and who to fear. The heroine relies on her own cunning to survive, and “love”… a long lost romance, and the daughter she gave up, were her only weaknesses. Not only do I highly recommend reading this book, it is also a keeper. One that you’ll want to read again and again.

Review:

Paloma Dove changed her name as often as some people changed their shirt, and it was up to an ex-FBI agent to figure out just who she was today. Who wanted her dead? And why? Max Laurent had promised himself years ago that he would protect her. He had a soft spot in his heart for her that hadn’t diminished even after all these years.

Yet, it wasn’t in Paloma’s nature to help him find out who was stalking her. She was so sure she could look after herself. She didn’t want to consider which of her personas was in deep enough trouble to warrant someone wanting her dead.

She could never admit, not even to herself, that this time she might need help.

RAVEN DOVE

Quote:

Although RAVEN DOVE begins as a dark 1879’s Western, it is written in a light, easy to read voice. Even the shoot-um-ups aren’t the backbone of this story. It is the type of romance where mutual respect is developed, and trust is earned. This is a delightful tale and I would recommend it to anyone with a love for small town westerns.

Review:

Beaten and battered, Vivien Clinton thought she had finally escaped her personal hell after her brutal uncle had died. That is, until she discovered he had already sold the store she thought she had inherited out from under her. She had no place to call home, and no one to trust. Not even the cowboy who had ridden through town one afternoon and kissing her had promised he’d be back for her. So, that was years ago. Where was he?

Why hadn’t he returned for her? Left all alone without funds or family she had no idea what she was going to do with the rest of her life. Well that is, until she met up with Madeline Bonchance and her three sons… and her long lost mother, the shady lady, whom she had been told was dead.

STORMY VIEW

Quote:

Kennalyn, the Stormy View Lighthouse keeper’s daughter naively takes on the most powerful woman in her husband’s life—his vengeful mother. The woman is not having her little boy wasting his life married to a nobody. She works like a viper to drive them apart. Although the story moves slowly, the conclusion is very satisfying.

Review:

Nikki Leigh’s tightly woven saga of the David Steven’s family slowly unravels to reveal the suspense hidden behind the vindictive manipulations of David’s mother and the heartbroken Kennalyn, who even as the years slid by cannot give up her love for her deceased husband. By herself, she struggles as a lawyer in a small coastal town to provide for her children until one fateful day when a man, a dead ringer for her dead husband turns up at a local diner. Then the whole picture changes for the Steven’s family.

THE BLOODMOON CURSE

Quote:

Multi-published award winning author, Karen Wiesner, writes a suspenseful contemporary mystery with Gothic overtones in THE BLOODMOON CURSE. The fast-punching conclusion will take your breath away, as God’s direction vs. the ancient evil found at the blizzard snowbound Manor at Bloodmoon Cove. This book will definitely keep you turning pages well past your bedtime.

Review:

There is plenty of heart-wrenching pathos in this Gothic-flavored tale of pediatric nurse, Amberlyn Lyons. Her husband, Cain Lyons, hasn’t even realized that his wife is missing. He thinks she has gone back to work to salve her grief after losing her pregnancy. Only her good friend, Daniel Reynolds, intuits that she is in trouble. Not having confided her intent to anyone, no one knows where to start looking for her.

After answering a desperate advertisement for a nanny, Amberlyn finds herself a virtual prisoner at the lonely, snow-bound, ancestral holdings of Bloodmoon Manor, where she has been hired to care for newly orphaned children, Jack [11], Lydia [5], and their 4 month old baby brother, Simon.

Caught in a blizzard and unable to contact the outer world, Amberlyn is desperate to protect the three children and herself against the diabolical forces haunting Bloodmoon Cove. The entire Bonaiaris family, deformed in body and spirit, live in the past. They worship their ancestors with unusual rituals, and Amber finds herself struggling to defend herself and the three children against the evil that pervades the entire ice-cold four story stronghold.

THE CAPITOL AFFAIR

Quote:

Patricia A. Worley describes her first-hand knowledge about political affairs in Washington D.C. in her latest book, THE CAPITOL AFFAIR. This is a gripping tale of espionage, terrorists, and unlikely suspects.

Review:

Red-headed, green eyed Alexis Carver’s stubbornness and tenacious temper are both her bad traits…and her good ones. Once she’s made up her mind she can’t be dissuaded. She is a cleaver woman and the creating engineer behind the military weapon Eagle Eye, which has taken her years to perfect. Yet, she is naïve about the world of love.

In spite of everything going suspiciously wrong all around her it takes Captain Reid Townsend to prove why she is in danger…and why someone wants her dead. The captain, head of the Navy’s “Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency”, [DARPA] is destined to review her project’s funding application. It doesn’t take him long to discover he would like to kidnap her himself.

THREE WEEKS LAST SPRING

Quote:

Victoria Howard’s THREE WEEKS LAST SPRING is a fast moving, exceptionally well crafted Romantic Suspense where hot physical attraction duals with the professional skills of the hero and heroine…whose rapid-fire tempers interferes with their scorching romance.

TRILOGY #102 – OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Quote:

Cat Johnson’s trilogy is cleverly crafted with three separate stories woven together with crossover characters. I found these personality profiles wonderfully complex and engaging. Each story could stand alone, yet reading all three together creates an enjoyable emotional tapestry. I highly recommend this book as a keeper.

TRILOGY #106 – NICE & NAUGHTY

Quote:

I don’t know how Cat Johnson knows so much about firemen, but she surely does. Not only in Trilogy #106, but all the others as well. Again Cat comes across with three separate spicy tales, which are interwoven into a complex story of firemen and their deeper needs.

Review:

SECRET RECIPES

Scott O’Malley [Mr. July] is the major character in this special story about the firemen from Company 31, Ladder #3. Whose idea was it anyway for the naked firemen’s calendar, the proceeds to go to a local hospital? There is nothing quite so hot as the popular TV-cook, Lexi Cooper, learning how to cook from a firefighter.

MR. DECEMBER

Jason Bryant, the COO of Bryant’s Department Store, agrees to house the auction of the twelve, nearly-naked bachelor firemen from Company 31. Reporter/photographer Tessa O’Donell, Troy’s sister [Mr. December], sat on Santa’s lap thinking it was her brother…but he definitely wasn’t. How could anyone have guessed that playing the part of a store Santa could have changed a person’s outlook on life?

CAN’T BUY ME LOVE

Zoey Massey nearly succumbs to smoke inhalation when she burns a batch of phallic cookies at her bakery. Gordy Mullen [Mr. February] is on his way home from the firehouse when he spots the smoke. He bolts into her shop and rescues the cookies, then Zoey, in that order. She finds their relationship heating up when she discovers herself bidding for him at the Bachelor Fireman’s Auction.

TRIO OF DISCONTENT

Quote:

If you like something a little different, this is it. TRIO OF DISCONTENT is a dark story of three young people in love, in a triadic relationship. It is dark because all three suffer from depression with weird dreams, hallucinations, and each struggle against their own evil emotions.

Review:

Linda L. Lattimer’s word-smithing is a bit different from your usual romance story. Her word choices have a foreign flavor which enhances this mystery of love and deception, lasting friendship, or a strong desire for revenge. It makes you wonder just what is Vincent’s ruthless game? Is everything he tells Monique a lie? You can’t help but wonder whether Monique will discover his scheme to hurt her and Colby? And if she finds out about this diabolical plan will it influence her choice of which man she chooses as her life’s partner… the child-like Colby, or Vincent who arouses her inner fires?

What happens when Vincent’s evil plan backfires?

WHAT LIES IN WINTER

Quote:

Cassidy Kent has discovered a new talent hidden within her… that of writing Torrid Romance. WHAT LIES IN WINTER is definitely as torrid as they come. If you are into the dominatrix sort of thing, you are going to love this short romance.

Review:

Hayley Barrett works in a dominating, stress-filled occupation. She needs time off to find her peace of mind. WHAT LIES IN WINTER is a near porn experience as red-headed Hayley finds the insufferable owner of the snow bound cabin she has rented, is in residence. The man’s salacious kisses lead to everything she could possibly imagine… and then some. She doesn’t want to admit even to herself that a popular mystery writer has masterfully captured her heart.
